Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955

(Central Act 22 of 1955)

It is extended to the Union Territory Goa, Daman and Diu by the Goa, Daman & Diu (Laws) Regulation 1962 (Central Act 12  of 1962) promulgated by the President of India under Article 240 of the Constitution of India, published in the Government Gazette Series I No. 41 dated 6/12/1962 came into force with effect from 26th January 1963 as the date appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Goa, Daman and Diu vide Notification published in the Government Gazette Series I No. 4 dated 24/1/1963. Originally this Act known as "Untouchability Offences Act, 1955". The title had been Amended vide  Act 106 of 1976 w.e.f. 19-11-1976.
