Regulation of Land Tax

In response to Starred Question No. 568 raised in the Goa Legislative Assembly on 5 July 1995 by the late Shri Manohar Parrikar, the then Law Minister, Shri Dominic Fernandes, informed the House that 43 Portuguese enactments continued to remain in force in Goa. These enactments were listed in Annexure I of the reply, with Legislative Diploma No. 1785, Regulamento da Contribuição Predial (Regulation of Land Tax), appearing at Serial No. 5.

An English translation of this Diploma was published by the Government Printing Press in 1974. Goa Kaido has now digitised the printed version to make it easily accessible to the common public, legal researchers, academicians, and scholars. Legislative Diploma No. 1785 specifically dealt with land tax regulation in Goa.

This publication presents the English translation of the principal provisions in digital form (in Notification) alongside the original Portuguese text as published in the Official Gazette (in Act file) , thereby facilitating preservation, reference, and comparative study. It also incorporates the English translation of the principal provisions of Legislative Diploma No. 1789 dated 15 April 1958, together with the original Portuguese text. Every effort has been made to avoid typographical errors; however, the original Government Printing Press version shall prevail in case of any discrepancy.
