Licença para espectáculo teatral (License for theatrical performances)

During the Portuguese era, in 1899, it was considered advantageous to consolidate into a single decree the various provisions—then scattered—relating to the grant of licenses for entertainments, festivities, sigmós, natôcas, and other amusements, as well as for firearm discharges and fireworks. The decree also introduced new rules to clearly define the jurisdiction of the authorities and the responsibilities of license holders, and was accordingly issued. According to the information furnished by the Law Department to the Goa Legislative Assembly while replying to Starred Question No. 568 on 5 July 1995, raised by late Shri Manohar Parrikar, the then Law Minister Shri Dominic Fernandes informed the House that 43 Portuguese laws were still in force in the State of Goa. The particulars of these laws were supplied in Annexure I appended to the said reply. In the said Annexure, this decree appears at Serial No. 8. An official translation was subsequently published by the Law Department on 24 May 2002. Post-Liberation, the powers of the Municipal Administrator under this decree were exercised by the Taluka Administrator, i.e., the Mamlatdar of the Taluka, who granted permissions under its provisions.The Act file contains the original Portuguese text, whereas the Notification file contains its English translation.
