Reorganizes the civil identification and criminal and police registry services

Decree-Law no. 41 077 dated 19th April,1957

This document is a legal decree issued in 1957 concerning the reorganisation of the Civil and Criminal Identification Services in the former Portuguese State of India.

According to the information furnished by the Law Department to the Goa Legislative Assembly while replying to Starred Question No. 568 on 5 July 1995, raised by late Shri Manohar Parrikar, the then Law Minister Shri Dominic Fernandes informed the House that 43 Portuguese laws were still in force in the State of Goa. The particulars of these laws were supplied in Annexure I appended to the said reply.

In the said Annexure, this Decree appears at Serial No. 9 with a restricted notation indicating “Art. 7(1) only”. Therefore, from the legal standpoint, only Article 7(1) of this Decree continues to remain relevant and operative.

However, for a proper understanding of the context, scope, and legislative intent of Article 7(1) of Decree-Law No. 41077, the entire Decree has been translated herein for the convenience of the readers. The Act file contains the original Portuguese text, whereas the Notification file contains its English translation.
