This document is an English translation of the Código dos Usos e Costumes dated 16.12.1880, popularly known as the Code of Hindu Usages and Customs of Goa.
According to the information furnished by the Law Department to the Goa Legislative Assembly while replying to Starred Question No. 568 on 5 July 1995, raised by late Shri Manohar Parrikar, the then Law Minister Shri Dominic Fernandes informed the House that 43 Portuguese laws were still in force in the State of Goa. The particulars of these laws were supplied in Annexure I appended to the said reply.
In the said Annexure, this Code appears at Serial No. 19.
With a view to making all the laws listed in the said Assembly reply easily accessible to the public, “Goa Kaido” has undertaken the task of translating the contents of this Code with the assistance of AI.
