Regulations governing water supply to the towns of the District of Goa

The regulations governing water supply to the towns of the District of Goa were originally issued during the Portuguese administration through Portaria No. 6802 dated 22 October 1956 and Portaria No. 7041 dated 10 October 1957.

In reply to Starred Question No. 568 raised in the Goa Legislative Assembly on 5 July 1995 by the late Manohar Parrikar, the then Law Minister, Dominic Fernandes, informed the House that 43 Portuguese enactments continued to remain in force in the State of Goa. These enactments were listed in Annexure I to the reply, and Portaria No. 6802 and Portaria No. 7041 appeared at Serial No. 28 as the laws relating to water supply to the towns of the District of Goa.

In 2003, the Goa Legislative Assembly enacted The Goa Provision of Water Supply Act, 2003. Section 10 of the Act repealed Portaria No. 6802 dated 10 December 1956, together with all other laws then in force in the State of Goa relating to the supply of water to consumers.

Section 10 reads as follows:

“10. Repeal and saving.— Portaria No. 6802 dated 10th December, 1956, and so much of any law as in force in the State of Goa relating to the supply of water to consumers shall stand repealed as from the coming into force of this Act.”

Accordingly, Portaria No. 6802 and Portaria No. 7041 are no longer in force and have therefore not been translated into English in this publication.

However, the original Portuguese texts as published in the Boletim Oficial are included in this compilation for historical and research purposes. By making these documents available, this publication seeks to assist researchers, legal scholars, and members of the public in preserving and studying Goa’s legal heritage and in undertaking comparative legal analysis.
