The Goa Municipalities Act, 1968 (7 of1969) (Amended up to 2022)

After the liberation of Goa, first Law related to the Municipal Administration was passed by the Legislative Assembly of the then Union Territory of Goa Daman & Diu in 1968 repealing "The Reforma Administrativa Ultramarina" pre-liberation Law which received assent from President of India on 2nd April, 1969 and published for general information of the public in the Government Gazette Series-1 No. 7 (supplement) dated 16-5-1969. This Law is called The Goa, Daman and Diu Municipalities Act, 1968 and the various provisions of the Act were enforceable in the Territory on different dates.

Since the enactment of this Act it has been amended by the Legislature from time to time as per the requirements for betterment of the people of this State. Similarly, the Rules made by the Government under the Act were also amended from time to time. As provided under Section 308 of the Act, the Government also published various Model Bye Laws on different subjects dealt by the Urban Bodies. The Government and the authorities under the Act issued numerous Notifications and Orders for effective implementation of the provisions of the Act.

In this book all the legal pronouncements, orders, notifications, guidelines and amendments are incorporated along with the respective section of the Code for better understanding of the said provisions.
